Document & Card Reading

Reading identity documents and cards — MRZ, visual inspection zones, barcodes, NFC chips and contact smart cards.

Overview

Axon's document and card reading engine extracts structured data from every zone of an identity document — the ICAO machine-readable zone, visual inspection zones, and PDF417, QR and AAMVA barcodes — and reads contactless NFC chips and ISO 7816 contact smart cards through the same capture flow. It recognises approximately 16,000+ distinct identity documents across 254 countries and territories, including passports, ID cards, driver's licenses, visas and residence permits.
