What are MCC and MNC?

The Mobile Country Code (MCC) is a 3-digit code, defined by ITU-T E.212, identifying the country a mobile network is licensed to operate in. The Mobile Network Code (MNC) is a 2 or 3-digit code identifying a specific operator within that country. Together, an MCC and MNC pair uniquely identifies a mobile network anywhere in the world.

They are the first digits an ICCID carries after its 89 telecom prefix, and the same MCC/MNC pair also appears at the start of every IMSI on that network — so this table doubles as a quick reference for both.

How does MCC/MNC relate to an ICCID?

An ICCID starts 89 (the telecom industry prefix), then the MCC, then the MNC — so the first several digits of every SIM serial number encode exactly which country and operator issued it. This lookup shows that combined prefix for every operator in the table.

Why does a country have more than one MCC?

Large or long-established markets often outgrew a single code. The United Kingdom uses both 234 and 235; the United States spans 310 through 316. Search the country name to see every code it holds.

Why does an operator have more than one MNC?

Mergers and acquisitions are the usual cause — an operator that has absorbed a competitor often keeps issuing SIMs under both the old and new network codes for years afterwards, and some operators are allocated separate codes for 2G/3G versus 4G/5G rollouts.

Is this dataset complete and current?

It is a cleaned merge of public MCC/MNC data covering 231 countries and over 2,400 operators, with decommissioned networks excluded. It is accurate enough for testing and reference, but is not a substitute for an operator’s own live numbering records.
